Remembering Virgil: Most Memorable Off-White Releases

6 Mins read

Virgil Abloh was known for his unique take on fashion. He often mixed streetwear and high fashion, creating a look that was both unique and accessible. His designs were always wearable, and he had a knack for creating pieces that were both stylish and functional.

Off-White is one of the most popular streetwear brands in the world, and Abloh’s appointment as artistic director at Louis Vuitton is a major coup for the fashion industry. With Abloh being the first African American to hold the position, he paved the way for many to follow and continues to remain one of the most iconic designers of the times.

As part of our series of Remembering Virgil, we take a look at some of the most in-demand Off-White releases sneakerheads have found interest on our platform.

OFF-WHITE X AIR JORDAN 1 RETRO HIGH OG ‘CHICAGO’

This collaboration between Off-White and Air Jordan puts a designer twist on a classic silhouette and colorway, giving it a splash of Off-White design elements. The sneaker comes with a white upper that appears on the toe box, midfoot, and tongue, while red overlays sit around the toe box, on both sides of the lace structure, and on the ankle. Black appears on the heel collar, laces, and Nike Swooshes on both sides of the sneaker, completing the classic Chicago colorway. Some splashes of color that appear on the sneaker come in the form of small blue stitching on the Swooshes, along with an orange patch under them. An off white overlay also appears near the Swooshes. Unlike the original sneaker, the Swooshes don’t meet at the back of the shoe. Branding appears in the form of a black Air Jordan logo on the red ankle overlay, and the text “AIR” on the off white midsole.

OFF-WHITE X AIR JORDAN 5 SP ‘SAIL’ [ALSO WORN BY DJ LOVE]

If you’re looking for a sneaker that will catch the eyes of everyone in the room, this collaboration between Off-White and Air Jordan could be a great pick for you. The sneaker comes in a light yellow, almost off white color on the upper, appearing on the toe box, midfoot, laces, and overlays, while yellow inners stand out from gaps in the upper. Michael Jordan’s number, 23, is embossed on the lateral side of the sneaker in red just above the heel, while branding also appears in the form of a red Jumpman logo on top of the grey tongue. The midsole comes in black color and has a visible bubble in the heel, while a red shark tooth design sits under the midfoot. Matching the theme of the upper, the outsole comes in a grey and yellow color, completing its look.

OFF-WHITE X CONVERSE CHUCK 70 ‘WHITE’

Putting together a shoe by using just two colors and making it look great is not an easy task, and it is especially difficult if the two colors are black and white. However, this collaboration between Off-White and Converse that comes to you in the form of the Chuck 70 White will blow your mind away with its looks. With a high top silhouette that comes in a purely white upper, you get a clean look on the upper with no distractions. White laces sit on top of a white tongue, featuring the text “Shoelaces.” The sole is where things start to get interesting. With diagonally designed thick stripes in black and white surrounding the entire sole of the shoe, you get a flashy look in a monochrome design. A black stripe also runs across the middle of these stripes, dissecting the sole into two. If you look carefully, you can see that the sneaker is orange on the bottom for an even more interesting look. The signature orange zip tie on the left shoe finishes the look of the sneaker.

OFF-WHITE X NIKE AIR PRESTO ‘THE TEN’

The Air Presto The Ten is not for sneakerheads who admire the classic designs and colorways of Nike sneakers. With multiple design elements that set the shoe apart, this is nothing that you would expect from a typical Nike sneaker. The upper of the shoe, instead of being made from leather, comes in a black mesh design that is great for breathability. Translucent off white overlays sit on the midfoot of the sneaker, joining the eyelets to the midsole. The laces themselves come in white as a stark contrast to the black of the upper, while the Nike Swoosh sits towards the front of the shoe, almost touching the toe box and disappearing behind the translucent overlays. The shoelaces carry the text “Shoelaces” on them as an example of quirky commentary, while the back of the shoe features a large black tab under the heel collar that carries the word “AIR” in large white letters. The outsole of the shoe near the heel comes in black, matching the color of the upper and finishing the look of the shoe.

OFF-WHITE X NIKE AIR RUBBER DUNK ‘UNIVERSITY GOLD’ [ALSO WORN BY WILLIAM CHAN]

If you’re looking for something subtle, this collaboration between Off White and Nike is not for you. The Nike Air Rubber Dunk University Gold has a lot going on when it comes to its upper. The upper of the shoe comes in a bright yellow color, appearing on the toe box, midfoot, and the heel collar, while metallic yellow and gold overlays are present in the form of stripes throughout the length of the shoe. Yellow overlays are also present on the shoe in the form of outlines where the metallic gold joins the yellow upper. The laces and Nike Swooshes come in yellow as well, finishing the look of the shoe. A bright orange flywire cable appears on the lateral side of the shoe attached to the top of the lace structure. A gum rubber sole appears on the shoe in black, also featuring a visible air bubble just below the heel.

OFF-WHITE X NIKE DUNK LOW ‘DEAR SUMMER – 01 OF 50’

With the age-old silhouette of the Nike Dunk Low making up the skeleton of the sneaker, this collaboration between Off-White and Nike is a part of the Dear Summer collection. With a clean look on the upper consisting completely of white, you see a white toe box, midfoot, tongue, laces, and overlays on the sneaker. A secondary set of laces, also in white, sits on top of the sneaker. The Nike Swooshes on both sides of the shoe come in a pencil-shaded design in black and white, while the frayed tongue of the sneaker comes in white and yellow. A tiny stitched label on the sneaker sits just below the Swoosh, matching the vermilion color of the Nike text on the heel tab overlay.

OFF-WHITE X NIKE DUNK LOW ‘UNIVERSITY GOLD’ [ALSO WORN BY KEVIN LOVE]

Collaborations between Nike and Off-White usually come in a classic Nike silhouette with Off-White design elements appearing on it, giving it a unique new look and feel. This is the same case with this sneaker, which comes with a golden yellow upper on the toe box, midfoot, heel collar, and tongue, while dark blue overlays appear around the toe box, on both sides of the lace structure, on the ankles, on the Nike Swooshes, and on the heel tab. This dark blue color is also matched by the laces on the shoe. Keeping up with the theme, the Nike text on the heel tab overlay appears in a golden yellow color. Off-White makes its presence known by a secondary lace structure on top of the sneaker that comes in bright orange color, giving it a nice contrast.
