International fashion designer, Virgil Abloh, is one of the most influential people in the streetwear/luxury industry. He was reported to have passed in November 28, 2021. The news came suddenly, sending waves of shock and sadness across the world. Today many celebrities have already paid tribute to Virgil’s work on Instagram posts.
In 2013, Abloh launched his own line of sneakers, Off-White. The shoes were an instant hit, thanks to their unique design and high-quality materials. Celebrities such as Kanye West and Rihanna soon began wearing them, and in a matter of years, Off-White became one of the most coveted brands in streetwear.
To pay tribute to the iconic designer, we take a look at some of the most popular Off-White sneakers known to the community.
OFF-WHITE X AIR JORDAN 1 RETRO HIGH OG ‘CHICAGO’
Putting a designer twist on a classic silhouette and colorway, this collaboration between Off-White and Air Jordan gives the sneaker a splash of Off-White design elements. The sneaker comes with a white upper that appears on the toe box, midfoot, and tongue, while red overlays sit around the toe box, on both sides of the lace structure, and on the ankle. Black appears on the heel collar, laces, and Nike Swooshes on both sides of the sneaker, completing the classic Chicago colorway. Some splashes of color that appear on the sneaker come in the form of small blue stitching on the Swooshes, along with an orange patch under them. An off white overlay also appears near the Swooshes. Unlike the original sneaker, the Swooshes don’t meet at the back of the shoe. Branding appears in the form of a black Air Jordan logo on the red ankle overlay and the text “AIR” on the off white midsole. A red outsole on the bottom of the sneaker finishes the look of the shoe.
OFF-WHITE X AIR JORDAN 1 RETRO OG ‘UNC’ [ALSO WORN BY RUSSELL WESTRBROOK]
With ironic and quirky design elements like the word “Shoelaces” appearing on the laces and the word “Air” appearing on the sole of the shoe, this collaboration between Off-White and Air Jordan brings you the classic colors of the University of North Carolina. The upper of the sneaker comes in a smooth white color with a slight bluish tinge, appearing on the toe box, midfoot, and heel collar, while light blue overlays appear around the toe box, on both sides of the lace structure, on the ankles, and on the heel counter. The Nike Swooshes sit in blue on both sides of the sneaker, independent of each other and not meeting towards the back. They are also sewn on the outer side of the other overlays with orange stitching, giving the sneaker a splash of color. White appears on the tongue, laces, and the Air Jordan logo on the lateral side of the sneaker on the ankle overlay. A white midsole is covered by a light blue outsole, completing the theme of the shoe.OFF-WHITE X AIR JORDAN 2 RETRO LOW SP ‘BLACK ROYAL’
With a black and blue color blocking, this collaboration between Off-White and Air Jordan comes with a perforated front foot and a snakeskin design on the midfoot and heel collar. The black upper appears on the toe box, tongue, heel counter, and midfoot, while blue appears on the laces and on the large Air Jordan logo on top of the tongue. The blue is matched by the patterned heel tab overlay and on detailing near the midfoot. A white Michael Jordan signature appears on the side of the shoe, making it a great pick for fans of the sport. The black midsole of the sneaker features some shading of yellow and is covered by a grey and blue outsole, giving the shoe a signature look that will work well both on and off the court.
OFF-WHITE X AIR JORDAN 2 RETRO LOW SP ‘WHITE RED’
This collaboration between Off-White and Air Jordan comes in the form of the Jordan 2 Retro Low SP White Red, a sneaker that is a nod to the ageing process and features intentionally aged elements on the sole. The upper comes in stark white, with perforations along the midfoot that play a part in both design and function. One of the most interesting aspects of this sneaker is the Michael Jordan signature sprawled on the lateral side of the shoe in black. Red overlays appear on the heel tab, while redlining can also be seen on the midfoot and along the heel collar. The large yellow midsole of the sneaker features intentional signs of ageing and is covered by a grey and red outsole. On top of the shoe as a contrast to the bright colors of the upper, black laces sit on top of the white tongue, giving the shoe a brilliant look.
