Chinese New Year Nike Drops

2 Mins read

With one of the toughest years for retail closing out, we enter 2021 fresh. Nike is kicking off the ‘Year of the Ox,’  by taking its own stylistic approach to the highly celebrated Chinese New Year holiday.

For these upcoming CNY releases, Nike brings forth a total of 16 different footwear and streetwear apparel to the foray, each meticulously designed in celebration of the February holiday.

In our own attempt to celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year, we take a look at some of these sneakers as well as some previously released drops that the massive conglomerate has put out in the last year.

Air Jordan 1 Low OG ‘CNY’ 2021

Constructed with a beautiful Black and Red canvas, the CNY 2021 comes in a University Red, Metallic Gold, and White colourway. The silhouette has embroidered Chinese graphics, with various depictions of an Ox. With a white midsole atop a red-coloured insole, the Nike Air wing logo is embroidered in gold at the heel. You can also see a visible red lacing around the ankle collar.

Air Jordan 5 Retro Low ‘CNY’ 2021

The Air Jordan 5 Retro Low Chinese New Year iteration for 2021 features a sneaker that looks plain at first sight but is packed with graphics under its surface. With a common white base for the midsole and laces, the shoe comes with flashy and contrasting colors of red and ivory white across the surface. The tongue of the shoe is white, and sits below the white laces on the shoe, while the top part of it is displayed in black, with a red Jumpman logo embossed across, giving it a contrasting aesthetic. The insole of the shoe inverts this theme and is red in colour. As tribute to CNY, the sneaker is definitely a nice silhouette to wear this upcoming holiday.

Nike Dunk Low ‘Chinese New Year – Firecracker’

For this year’s Chinese New Year celebrations, Nike releases its Dunk Low ‘Chinese New Year Firecracker’. In celebration of the Year of the Ox, the sneaker comes in a blue and red mix across the upper. The cool tone complements the striking red that adds to the eye-catching silhouette of the shoe. You can see the Nike branding throughout the sneaker in the form of graphic typography, and with its name, the sneaker gives a sizzling flavour to a celebratory holiday.
