Streetwear Everywhere: Star Wars x Adidas Collaboration

4 Mins read

Star Wars is one of the most popular movie franchises of all time. As a multi-part series that spans over four decades and twelve movies, there is no doubt that the Star Wars franchise has amassed one of the biggest fandoms in the entire world.

The first Star Wars movie came out in 1977 and was titled Star Wars Episode IV – A New Hope. The franchise has since held a Guinness World Records title for the most successful film merchandising franchise, with over USD$20 billion in sales for their total merchandising revenue. Besides merchandising sales, the Star Wars movies have grossed over $10 billion worldwide as well.

With names like Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Chewbacca remaining familiar in the ears of many, Adidas works together with the brand to bring sneakerheads a taste of some of the most iconic characters into their shoes.

The Mandalorian Collection

To close out the year with a big bang, and to celebrate the release of The Mandalorian Season 2, the Star Wars franchise announced a set of Adidas sneakers that are bound to give Star Wars fans and sneakerheads a run for their money. Following the success of releases like The Boba Fett Top Ten Hi and the Adidas Stan Smith ‘Luke Skywalker,’ the massive franchise celebrates its 40th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back with the Mandalorian Collection.

Adidas The Mandalorian Collection

While many coming into the game of sneakers or Star Wars may be in excitement with these releases, it comes as no surprise that Adidas and Star Wars have issued other popular drops in the past, with their collaboration sending waves of joy for the fandom. The sneakers below are just a few of the hot releases that Star Wars and Adidas have done together.

Star Wars x Adidas Stan Smith ‘Luke Skywalker’

Paying tribute to Luke Skywalker’s signature blue lightsaber, the Adidas x Star Wars Stan Smith Luke Skywalker sneaker comes in a white and blue colourway and in a clean, sleek design. The outsole is made out of a translucent blue material and the tongue sports a blue label with a picture of Luke Skywalker on it. You can also see pins of R2D2, Yoda, an X-wing, and a lightsaber throughout the sneaker.

Adidas Alphaedge 4D Star Wars Death Star

For runners who are a fan of the Star Wars universe, the Adidas Alphaedge 4D Star Wars Death Star nods its head to the intimidating, highly popular mobile space station Death Star. The midsole looks as if it’s built from a 3D printed structure, donning a black upper and outsole. The Adidas branding is visible on the lateral side of the shoe near the ankle. At the back, you can see the Obi-Wan Kenobi quote, “That’s no moon” embossed in capital white letters.

Star Wars x Adidas Superstar ‘Darth Vader’

With a black and red colourway, the Adidas Star Wars Superstar Darth Vader has a toe box that is shaped like Darth Vader’s helmet. The words Star and Wars are embedded in front of the lace structure, with the tongue featuring the famous Star Wars antagonist along the red label. The lateral sides of the shoe have the Adidas stripes with the word Superstar written in red parallel to them.

Star Wars x Adidas NMD R1 ‘Yoda’

Any shoe named ‘Yoda’ would not do the beloved character justice without sporting some green. Hence, the Star Wars x Adidas NMD R1 ‘Yoda’ sneaker has a green colourway, with a green line running down the middle of the front of the shoe. There is a tag in front of the lace with the word Star Wars on it, while the insole features the Adidas and the Star Wars logo as well

Star Wars x Adidas NMD R1 ‘Darth Vader’

Using the crimson colour of Darth Vader’s lightsaber as inspiration, the Adidas NMD R1 Star Wars Darth Vader comes in a red and black colourway. The upper is made completely in black, while the midsole starts off black and fades into an orange-red tint. A clear visible Star Wars graphic can be seen on the tongue.

Star Wars x Adidas Ultraboost DNA ‘Yoda’

Yoda makes an appearance on the tongue in the form of a black and green label. The shoe is made out of a greyish green upper, a colourway similar to the Master Jedi’s skin. The midsole of the shoe comes in a grey tone, while leather on the sides of the shoe comes in green and black. On the insole of the shoe, you can see the Adidas and Star Wars logo.

Star Wars x Adidas Top Ten ‘C-3PO & R2-D2’

Paying tribute to the loveable robotic duo in Star Wars, the mismatched sneakers are split in half from metallic gold representing C-3PO to the white-blue of R2-D2. The tongues feature each robot separately, with Star Wars branding in the form of the Adidas and Star Wars logo along with the lateral parts. This uniquely designed sneaker sports an interesting aesthetic for many Star Wars lovers to wear.
