Manchester United 26/27 Home Kit: What’s New, and How It Compares to Recent Seasons

4 Mins read

Manchester United’s home shirt is red. That part has been settled since 1902.

So the interesting question with any United home kit is which part of the shirt adidas decides to make the story. And over four seasons they’ve worked through nearly all of it — the body, then the colour itself, then the sleeves, and now, for 26/27, the collar.

Because the headline this season is a polo collar, back on a United home shirt after years of round necks.

The 26/27 Home Kit

Released 14 May 2026, and the neck is the first thing anyone noticed.

After several seasons of round necks and technical minimalism, adidas has brought back a classic polo collar — a detail that’s been quietly returning across the game, and one that suits United more than most. The base is a clean red, with white adidas Three Stripes and branding standing sharply against it, striped sleeve cuffs, and black accents worked subtly throughout to keep the traditional red-white-black palette intact.

The reference is the mid-1970s — specifically the Admiral-era United shirts of roughly 1975 to 1980, with a nod to the club’s 1977 domestic cup win. There’s a “United” sign-off stitched into the back of the neck.

United debuted it in the final home league match of the 25/26 season against Nottingham Forest, then wore it in pre-season against Wrexham.

Tech: lightweight body-mapped 3D engineered fabrics with CLIMACOOL+ and strategically placed ventilation panels on the authentic version. The replica uses standard Climacool with a regular fit.

How It Compares to Recent Seasons

The red never moves. What changes is which part of the shirt adidas treats as the canvas — and it’s been a different answer every season.

The 25/26 was the first United home shirt in many years to carry a bespoke sleeve print — an abstract graphic in various shades of red representing Old Trafford’s pitch, stands and tunnel. adidas design director Jurgen Rank described the thinking as using the sleeves as a canvas, which is about as literal as a design brief gets. “Theatre of Dreams” is printed on the back of the collar.

The 24/25 made the colour itself the design. A red-on-red gradient built on the Tiro 24 template, using fluorescent materials intended to help players pick each other out under floodlights — so the shirt reads differently depending on how the light hits it. Busby Babes inspiration, white shorts, black socks.

The 23/24 put everything on the body. A repeating pattern combines the Lancashire Rose with a geometric structure derived from Trafford Road Bridge, built during the industrial revolution — a heraldic reference and an architectural one at the same time. It was also the first season since 2019-20 that adidas used black as United’s secondary colour.

One thing that isn’t constant: the front of the shirt. adidas has supplied all four, but TeamViewer was the front-of-shirt sponsor through 23/24, and Snapdragon took over from 1 July 2024 on a deal reported at around £60 million per season. The 24/25 home kit launched on the exact day the deal began.

That makes sponsor the fastest way to date a United shirt — and it makes the 23/24 pair the last of the TeamViewer era, with DXC Technology on the sleeve.

Which Season Should You Buy?

The 26/27 if you want what the squad wears this season. The polo collar is the most distinctive thing adidas has put on a United home shirt in years, and it’s the cleanest of the four — no gradient, no busy pattern, just red with a proper collar.

The 25/26 if you want the most unusual detail. A bespoke sleeve print on a United home shirt is genuinely rare, and the Old Trafford graphic is subtle enough that it reads as texture rather than decoration from any distance.

The 23/24 if you want the most thought-through concept. The Lancashire Rose set into Trafford Road Bridge geometry is the best design idea of the four seasons, and it’s subtle enough that most people wearing it have no idea what the pattern is. It’s also the last United home shirt with TeamViewer on the front, which matters if you’re collecting.

If you’re buying for a specific player, check the squad against the season — the 26/27 shirt carries Bruno Fernandes, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Leny Yoro among others, and a name-and-number set is what fixes a shirt to a particular team.

On authentic versus replica: for match-going or everyday wear the replica is the sensible pick, and it’s near-identical from any normal distance. Go authentic if you’re playing in it or want the exact squad spec — it’s cut tight enough that most buyers size up. Expect roughly a £30 gap.

All four seasons are on Novelship — the current 26/27 alongside the three that came before it, every shirt authenticated in-house before it ships. Older seasons thin out in the popular sizes first, so if you’re after a specific year it’s worth checking availability before you settle on one.
