Bring the Heat with Civilist Berlin x Nike SB Dunk Low ‘Heat Map Thermography’

2 Mins read

After countless teasers on the Internet, the highly anticipated Civilist Berlin x Nike SB Dunk Low collaboration makes sneakerheads all over the world ecstatic with their unique sneaker, the Civilist Berlin x Nike SB Dunk Low ‘Heat Map Thermography.’

The Berlin-based sneaker shop works together with Nike to bring about a unique approach to sneaker design, where the surface leather has a thermochromic finish and colourway. At first glance, the sneaker looks like a clean all-black Dunk Low. Yet, with enough heat added to the surface of the shoe, the silhouette changes to reveal an infrared-inspired pattern.

The multi-color heat map reveals the temperature spectrum, contrasting to the tonal stitching along the body. You can see visible Civilist tabs, an infrared tongue tag and Nike embroidered at the rear ankle side of the shoe.

These hyped sneakers come in a beautiful rainbow coloured Nike SB box. This isn’t the first time the German store has collaborated with Nike SB Dunk line, as they collaborated on a Dunk High back in 2013. The tongue is quite edgy and cool, as the silhouette sports a black upper with a white midsole and black outsole. The shoes come with secondary laces as well to match the temperature spectrum design. Quite interesting to see on a shoe, the colour change is pretty drastic and remains activated for some time. Due to its thicker synthetic leather upper, consumers will need to buy a half size up,  These sneakers definitely give a fun experience for sneakerheads and casual wearers.

More than Meets the Eye: Two-Faced Sneakers

The Civilist Berlin x Nike SB Dunk Low ‘Heat Map Thermography’ is yet another silhouette amongst the list of hot releases that are making waves due to the uniqueness of its colourway and changing designs.

It is no surprise that people want customization and multi-colours. Not only does this put a more unique spin to the shoe, but it makes the consumer feel like they are getting two-in-one. This is evident from the growing trend of mismatched sneakers and highly-popular releases like Nike Dunk Low SP ‘Lemon Wash Community Garden’ which — is not only part of the movement for sustainability — but is a patched up blend of different colours.

While the Civilist Berlin x Nike SB Dunk Low ‘Heat Map Thermography’ may be the first in the Nike SB Dunk line to exhibit this type of ‘reveal style’ sneaker, Nike has been giving buyers the option to have a sort of two-in-one deal from way back. From the peel away concept of the Nike Air Force 1 Low LX ‘Reveal’ WMNS to the extremely popular G-Dragon PEACEMINUSONE x Nike Air Force 1 Low ‘Para-Noise’ which reveals the K-Pop artist’s artwork as the black surface paint wears away, this approach to there being ‘more than meets the eye’ for a shoe has been quite successful, to say the least.
