Gucci has always been a fashion statement in itself. From their sunglasses to their popular handbags, walking with Gucci was always a way of showing luxury and class to the rest of the world.

With the streetwear movement, luxury brands such as Alexander McQueen and Balenciaga have stepped into the foray, displaying their signature touch to the culture. Gucci, as part of the collective of luxury brands, has been no different. With the past few years of hot drops, the brand shows an array of popular choices that many sneakerheads and streetwear enthusiasts would die to get their hands on.

The Popularity of Gucci over the Years

Gucci’s impact on the worldwide fashion industry is impressive. Since its advent, the brand has grown into a luxury powerhouse known across the globe, whereas in 2019, Gucci was the fourth most valuable luxury brand in the world. Owned by the Kering Group — a global luxury group that manages various well-known fashion brands — Gucci continues to reinvent fashion by focusing on details and craftsmanship.

Gucci’s value has grown at a steady, impressive rate in the last ten years. The value of the luxury brand was 147 billion euros in 2009 and almost doubled by 2019 to reach 281 billion euros. Luxury watches and handbags make up about a third of this total revenue.

Gucci in the Streetwear Space

Streetwear is not just about clothing. The range of items introduced by Gucci to adopt to the streetwear movement is proof in itself that the brand has kept close tabs on the culture. Not only has Gucci removed the use of fur in their clothes as a stand against cruelty towards animals, but they also have shown their support of gender equality by making unisex clothes, and driven action in politically charged environments to make the world a more inclusive place.

If you take a look at the Men’s section in the Gucci shopping website, you will find liberal use of bold graphics and flashy colours that appeal to the new generations. According to the Luxury Resale Report 2019 of Luxury Consignment TheRealReal, Gucci was the highest searched brand of the year. The overall demand for the luxury brand also increased by 78% from 2018.
