In an attempt to encourage more sustainable sneakers, Nike surprised the world with their line of sneakers known as the Space Hippie collection. With a total of eight different sneakers, the collection is lined up with four unique silhouettes under the labels of ‘Grey Volt’ and ‘Hyper Crimson.’ Made entirely out of recycled leftovers, these sneakers are a look at what the future of shoes could look like.
Nike Space Hippie 01 ‘This is Trash – Grey Volt’
The upper is made of 90% recycled polyester, Released on June, 9th, 2020, the two silhouettes of this line retail for about $130.
The knit upper is made of polyester. The upper is fused with the tongue, making the sneakers look classic. The outer sole is made of thick rubber with deep threads for enhanced surface grip. This makes the sneaker suitable for jogging and other outdoor activities on both smooth and rough surfaces.

Nike Space Hippie 01 ‘This is Trash – Hyper Crimson’
The back of the sneaker looks stylish with the heel collar extended with a loop that makes the shoes easily wearable. The ribbon loop is also fitted at the tongue. The sneakers are multicolored with blends of gray, red, and black.
Nike Space Hippie 02 ‘This is Trash – Grey Volt’
The Nike Space Hippie 02 is a stylish woven sneaker that, much like the Space Hippie 01 was made of recycled material. The knit upper is made of material from leftover t-shirts, yarns, and plastic. Released in Asia and Europe on July, 3rd, 2020, and retailing for $130 to $180, these are the second iterations of the Space Hippie Collection.
The upper is made of woven material and is equipped with ribbon loops at the front and rear, making it easy to carry these sneakers with your fingers. Moreover, the outer sole is made of thick rubber that extends to form the toe-wrap. The sneaker has multiple colours, with traces of red, black, and blue.
Nike Space Hippie 03 ‘This is Trash – Grey Volt’
The Nike Space Hippie 03 comes shows two releases, with the Nike Space Hippie 03 ‘This is Trash – Hyper Crimson’ and Nike Space Hippie 03 ‘This is Trash – Grey Volt.’ Also made 85% recycled polyester, these highs will be retailing for $180.
The upper is of woven material that is reinforced with plastic straps. The tongue is stitched on top of the upper, with a ribbon running across. The boots have a thick outer sole extending around to form the toe wrap, and the rear of the boot is designed in a way to give a futuristic aesthetic. The heel counter is reinforced with plastic, with an additional loop running to the outer sole.
Nike Space Hippie 04 ‘Crimson’ & ‘Volt’
The Nike Space Hippie 04 comes shows two releases, with the Nike Space Hippie 04 ‘This is Trash – Hyper Crimson WMNS’ and Nike Space Hippie 04 ‘This is Trash – Grey Volt WMNS.’ These sneakers were released exclusively for women to wear and retail for $130.
With an upper fused with the tongue, the Nike logo cuts across the midsole, with the Nike text logo inscribed on the white ribbon on back. The outer sole is made of thick rubber with deep threads to enhance grip on the surfaces. The main differences between the Hyper Crimson and Grey Volt are the colourways. The former sports a light grey and red hue, while the latter comes in a dark grey tone, with a distinctly yellow Nike logo.
